What is DigniCap?

The DigniCap scalp cooling system is the first device to be cleared by the FDA in December 2015 to reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss in women with breast cancer. This technology is used during chemotherapy infusion in cancer centers and has proven successful in 70-80% of patients worldwide. It features a tight-fitting silicone cooling cap that is connected to a cooling unit and placed directly on the head. A liquid coolant circulates throughout the silicone cap and lowers the scalp temperature, which results in decreased delivery of chemotherapy to hair follicles thus limiting hair loss. This technology is much easier to use than previous scalp cooling devices, which required replacing the caps at 20-30 minute intervals.

What Is Caps of Love?

Dr. Young Lee of Chesapeake Oncology at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD, first heard about Cold Cap therapy from a patient. Since then, Dr. Lee has treated several of her patients with Cold Caps, all with great success. However, for many patients, the high price to rent the caps from a private supplier is a drawback. Currently, the cost of using DigniCap is approximately $400-450 per chemo treatment in different centers, and unfortunately, full insurance coverage is yet to be guaranteed. Seeing this dilemma, Dr. Lee and her daughter Minnie sought a way to provide Cold Caps and their amazing benefits for all women to enjoy, regardless of their ability to pay.  They collaborated with The Red Devils to create a fund just for this purpose — Caps of Love.
